The liver is the largest chemical laboratory in the human body, through which approximately one liter of blood flows per minute. Over 5,000 vital functions and over 500 chemical processes that take place inside the human body depend on the liver. The function of this organ is to properly process each of the substances that go to it – both the useful ones, through metabolism, e.g. proteins, sugars, fats, and harmful, among others cleansing the body of toxic substances, drugs or alcohol. It is a storehouse of spare substances for our body (glycogen), as well as fat-soluble vitamins A, D and K.

It should be remembered that the liver, in addition to being the main detoxifying organ of the body, is also responsible for the storage of vitamins and minerals, metabolism, bile production and thermoregulation. It is one of the key organs on which health and even life depends. Since the liver itself does not hurt or show any other signs of fatigue, we often forget about the importance of keeping it in good condition.

We should take care of it through the use of properly selected and balanced foods, cleansing diets or, possibly, appropriate support by supplementing substances that have a beneficial effect on its work – says prof. dr hab. Robert Flisiak, President of the Polish Hepatological Society. Scientific research shows that some substances of natural origin have a beneficial effect on cleansing the liver of toxins, which really supports its work. For example, chlorella, which is the richest known source of chlorophyll – hence its name.

Chlorophyll has a beneficial effect on the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract, which constitute a natural barrier against the passage of toxic substances from the gastrointestinal tract directly into the bloodstream. In addition, Chlorella’s cell wall contains sporopollein, a unique substance that binds metals irreversibly and is expelled from the body. Artichoke extract is also an excellent support for the liver.

The active substances contained in the artichoke leaves stimulate the production of bile and protect the liver cells. Artichoke leaves are helpful in treating atherosclerosis and have a diuretic effect, thereby accelerating the removal of toxic waste products from the body.
